Darrell Jackson Gardens

Right in the middle of Summer Hill village, Darrell Jackson Gardens is where locals take the dog for a short loop between the shops and home. Inner West Council keeps the whole park on lead, with no off-leash area inside it.

Around the park

Concrete and paved paths wind past the cricket oval, a skate park, play areas and the basketball and tennis courts. It is a busy, social space, so expect kids, bikes and balls.

Mature trees shade parts of the paths and lawns.

Water and bins

There are drinking fountains in the park and bins throughout, including for dog waste. A portable bowl makes the fountain easier to use for a thirsty dog.

Parking is on the surrounding residential streets.

Make a day of it

Finish with coffee at The Granary Cafe Summer Hill or BarCycle Cafe Summer Hill, both a short walk away in the village.

This one suits calm, sociable dogs and quick daily walks. Dogs that get worked up by skateboards or ball games may find the busier corners a lot, so keep to the shaded paths.
