The rules

Off-leash running is confined to the fenced enclosure, reached through a double-gated entry, and owners stay inside with their dogs for the whole visit. Outside the fence, the rest of the park and the surrounding streets are on-lead, and dogs are not allowed in the children's playground or around the food and picnic preparation areas. Bring your own bags, because the dispensers are not always stocked.

What's there

Inside the fence: a water station with a fountain and dog bowl, benches for owners, and shaded spots under established trees. The ground is open grass that turns muddy quickly after heavy rain, so time your visit around the weather if a clean dog matters. Outside sits the wider park: a playground, barbecue and picnic area, basketball half-court, a paved walking loop through remnant turpentine forest, and public toilets that are sometimes reported closed.

The vibe

Weekday late afternoons from 4pm to 6pm and weekend mornings draw the biggest crowds, while weekday mid-morning and early afternoon often leave the whole field to you. The regulars are easygoing inner-west locals, and the breeze up on the hill keeps summer visits tolerable.

The park is at 30 Trevenar Street, Ashbury. There is a small on-site car park that fills at busy times, plus free street parking on the surrounding residential roads. Local buses run along Georges River Road and Canterbury Road, both within walking distance.
