Peace Park Fenced Dog Park on Trevenar Street is a roughly 3,700 square metre off-leash enclosure with mature trees and a big open field, open 24 hours a day, and it is the kind of secure run that suits a high-energy dog needing real space to sprint.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash only inside the fenced enclosure, entered through a double-gated entry so dogs cannot slip out while the gate is open. Owners need to stay inside the fenced area and keep an eye on their dogs the whole time. There is no separate small-dog area, so all dogs share the one large space. Pick up after your dog straight away, and bring your own bags since the dispensers are not always stocked.

What's there. A water station with a fountain and dog bowl, a handful of benches for owners, and several shaded spots under the trees. The ground is open grass that turns muddy after rain. Just outside the fence there is a playground, a barbecue and picnic area, and a basketball half-court, plus public toilets, though these are sometimes reported closed.

Getting there. 30 Trevenar Street, Ashbury. Free street parking is available on the surrounding residential roads, and there is a small on-site car park that fills up at busy times. Local buses run along nearby arterial roads such as Georges River Road and Canterbury Road.

Watch-outs. The field turns muddy fast after heavy rain, so it is worth timing a visit around the weather if you want to keep a dog reasonably clean.

Nearby with the dogs. Several dog-friendly cafes are a short drive away on Canterbury Road and in neighbouring Ashfield and Summer Hill, including 3 Tomatoes and First Street Pantry for a coffee afterwards.

When to go. Weekday late afternoons (4 to 6pm) and weekend mornings are the busiest, so aim for a weekday mid-morning or early afternoon if you want the field to yourself. Good for high-energy dogs that need proper room to run, less so straight after rain.
