Henley Park Off Leash Dog Area

Henley Park's off-leash dog area sits at the eastern end of Henley Park in Enfield, between Short and Mitchell Streets in Sydney's inner west. It is a fully fenced, floodlit space that has become one of the area's busier off-leash spots, open around the clock outside organised sports fixtures on the grounds.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fenced boundary between Short and Mitchell Streets; everywhere else in Henley Park the lead stays on. Burwood Council requires dogs to be under the effective control of a responsible person at all times, and the double-gate entry system should be used properly rather than propping a gate open. Bag dispensers are on site and cleaning up is enforced, with penalties for owners who skip it.

The vibe

Full perimeter fencing, floodlighting until 9pm for evening visits, water stations and bag dispensers cover the essentials. This is a social park: it fills up fast after work and on weekend mornings, so dogs that prefer calm over chaos do better at midday on a weekday. There are no human toilets inside the fenced area itself, so plan ahead. The wider park adds a walking loop and a playground if the rest of the family comes along.

Getting there and parking

The park runs along Mitchell Street, Enfield, with street parking on Mitchell and Short Streets. Buses on Liverpool Road, which doubles as the Hume Highway here, stop within a short walk.

Close by with the dogs

The Gentle Bean on Liverpool Road keeps a full doggy menu and welcomes dogs indoors, and Garden House Cafe on Mitchell Street is right around the corner for an easier stop. If you want a second off-leash session in the same suburb, Grant Park has separate small and large dog zones a couple of minutes away.
