Grant Park Fenced Dog Park

Grant Park Fenced Dog Park sits at 4 Shelley Street in Enfield, inside the wider Henley Park precinct next to the Enfield Aquatic Centre. It is one of the better-fitted-out fenced parks in Sydney's inner west: dual enclosed sections, airlock gates, solar lighting and covered seating, all within a busy community reserve. The split layout is the point, letting smaller or lower-energy dogs take their own space away from the rowdy regulars.

The dog setup

The off-leash zones are fenced at 1200mm with double-gate airlock entries, so unclipping happens safely inside. Solar lighting keeps the park usable into the evening, and water stations are on site along with grooming tables and covered seating. Waste bins are provided and council enforces pick-up with on-the-spot fines under the Companion Animals Act. The off-leash area runs daily from 7am to 9pm, and a handler can bring up to four dogs at once.

Max: if the main section is rammed, check the second enclosure first. It is usually calmer and the difference in energy is obvious from the gate.

Worth knowing

Even inside a fence, dogs must stay under effective control of a competent adult, and any dog showing aggression needs to leave straight away. The surrounding playgrounds and picnic areas of Henley Park are on-leash only, so keep the lead handy for the walk in and out. The wider reserve adds public toilets, barbecue areas and an inclusive playground, which makes it a genuinely whole-family outing rather than just a dog run.

Getting there and parking

There is free street parking on Shelley Street plus a car park in the Henley Park complex, but both fill quickly on weekends when junior sport is running. Local buses along Liverpool Road, the old Hume Highway, stop within walking distance.

When to go

Weekend mornings between 8am and 11am and weekday early evenings draw the crowds. Mid-morning on a weekday is the quiet window, worth planning around if your dog prefers room to run over a social scene.

Close by with the dogs

The Henley Park Off Leash Dog Area is in the same precinct if you want a bigger circuit, and Elliot Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Strathfield South is a short drive with plenty of grass and sniffing patches. Hawthorne Canal Reserve is the Inner West classic for a bigger outing. For coffee, the Garden House Cafe on Mitchell Street is the closest listing.
