Campsie Off Leash Dog Area

Campsie Off Leash Dog Area is a fully fenced, floodlit run tucked behind the houses on Seventh Avenue, right beside the Cooks River Cycleway. It is a solid neighbourhood option for dogs without perfect recall, since the double-gated fencing means a bolt for the river is not on the cards.

The dog setup

The run is open 24 hours Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sundays. Dogs stay on leash once outside the fenced area, including on the Cooks River Cycleway and surrounding parkland. Owners keep dogs in sight and under effective control at all times, and clean up promptly; bags and bins are supplied. The yard holds about 500 square metres of grass, with a water tap, a couple of shade trees, a few benches, and basic agility gear including a tunnel, some jumps and a hoop that doubles as training equipment.

Max: if the yard's packed, the on-leash river path is the better call rather than squeezing into a crowded fenced space.

Worth knowing

Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit; weekday afternoons, weekends and Tuesday and Thursday evenings tend to draw local meetups. The riverside spot can get breezy and a bit muddy after rain, so check underfoot before you let a light-coloured dog loose.

Getting there and parking

Walk in from the northern end of Beamish Street and follow the path west beside the river for roughly 100 metres, or approach via Seventh Avenue. It is a short walk from Campsie train station, which is the easy way in. Parking is limited to street spots and a small area near the park, so do not expect much room on busy afternoons.

While you're out there

The Cooks River Cycleway continues on-leash towards Leslie Muir Reserve if the fenced area is full, and Peter Moore Field Fenced Dog Park in Belmore is the alternative enclosure a few minutes away. For a coffee on the way back, True Brew Cafe sits near the Beamish Street end.
