Currumbin Foreshore and Currumbin Alley Walk

This coastal walk runs from Tugun Beach north to Currumbin Alley, passing Elephant Rock and Currumbin Rock with the surf breaks beside you. Dogs are welcome on lead on the pathway, but not on the patrolled beaches.

Lead rules

City of Gold Coast allows dogs on a lead along the shared coastal pathway, part of the Gold Coast Oceanway. Currumbin Alley and the patrolled surf beaches are not off-leash areas, and dogs are kept off the patrolled swimming areas.

The nearest off-leash beach is on the northern side of Currumbin Creek, starting near Palm Beach Parklands.

The walk

Most of the route is flat, sealed Oceanway path, with some sections of open sand. Pandanus, banksias and park shelters give patchy shade, but long stretches sit in full sun.

Drinking fountains with dog bowls and bins are spaced along the Oceanway. There is paid and free street parking near Currumbin Alley and Thrower Drive.

Max: The open foreshore gets hot in the middle of the day. Carry water on warm days, even with the fountains along the way.

Atkin Park Dog Exercise Area in Tugun has an unfenced off-lead zone, and House of Hubert is handy for a coffee.

When to go

Early mornings and late afternoons dodge the heat on the exposed sections. The paved path keeps sand out of paws and suits dogs of any age.
