What visitors mention
A shaded bushland loop around a small lake in the Croydon Hills residential estate, easily linked from surrounding streets and good for a steady 30 to 45 minute walk with birdlife along the way.
The rules. Dogs must stay on-leash for the entire reserve, no exceptions for the lake edge or the gravel loop. The council requires effective control by chain, cord or leash, and owners must pick up after their dog immediately. Bikes and horses aren't permitted on the paths either, which keeps the trail calmer for on-leash walking.
The walk. A gravelled path circles the lake and links out to the surrounding streets, flat and easy underfoot. Expect ducks, water birds and the occasional echidna sighting along the way, plus a few bridges crossing the water's edge.
What's there. Park benches along the loop, picnic shelters and tables, and bins. No dog wash or drinking taps noted, so bring your own water for a hot day.
Getting there. Limited street parking on Candlebark Walk and the surrounding residential streets, no dedicated car park. Buses run along nearby Croydon Road and Brentford Square, but most visitors arrive on foot from the estate or drive and park on-street.
Nearby with the dogs. The Scented Garden in Croydon has a heated, sheltered outdoor area. Victoria House Motor Inn in Croydon North is a straightforward pet-friendly option if you need to stay over, though it pays to confirm pet terms when booking.

When to go. Early mornings and late afternoons bring out the local dog-walking regulars; mid-morning or mid-afternoon on a weekday is quieter. Sunday mornings have an easy, unhurried feel if you're not in a rush. Good for dogs that are settled on-leash and owners after a calm loop rather than an off-leash run.
