A quiet wetland reserve off Crossman Drive with open grass for off-leash play and a natural pond that draws waterbirds. It is unfenced, so this suits a dog with solid recall rather than a bolt-prone one.

The rules. The open grass areas are designated off-leash, but dogs need to be under effective voice control at all times since the reserve has no fence line. Leash up on the shared paths, within 15 metres of the playground and picnic tables, and anywhere near the water, which the council manages as wetland habitat for the local birdlife.

What's there. A small playground near the Crossman Drive entrance, five shaded picnic tables, and waste bins. There is no dog wash and no on-site car park, just street parking on Crossman Drive.

Getting there. Street parking only, on Crossman Drive and the surrounding residential streets. The nearest train station is Croydon, then a short drive, bus or taxi. Most visitors walk in from nearby streets.

Nearby with the dogs. The Scented Garden in Croydon has a sheltered, dog-friendly outdoor area for a coffee afterwards.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings or early afternoons are quietest. Weekend mornings and the after-school/after-work stretch draw the most dogs and prams, so head deeper into the reserve past the playground if you want space. Good for calm dogs who enjoy a wander over a full-tilt run.
