Chinaman's Creek Trail

Chinaman's Creek Trail follows the creek line down to the foreshore on the Rosebud and Capel Sound side of the Mornington Peninsula. It swaps hard suburban footpath for a quieter walk past native coastal plants and birdlife, and dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Mornington Peninsula Shire requires dogs on a lead along the creek trail and the Bay Trail it joins. Seasonal off-lead beach areas exist nearby, but their times shift with daylight saving, so check the shire's current rules before heading onto the sand.

The walk

Expect packed earth, gravel and a few sandy stretches rather than concrete. Coastal banksias and older trees give patchy shade along the way.

The trail links into the Mornington Peninsula Bay Trail, so you can stretch the outing toward Rye or Dromana, or turn back whenever your dog has had enough.

Water and parking

Public taps sit around the foreshore and camping areas, and bins are at the nearby foreshore access points. Carry a bowl for the trail itself.

Parking is off Point Nepean Road, near the foreshore reserves and boat ramps.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, Lawson Park Fenced Dog Off Leash Park is fully fenced and close by. Coffee at Zarb & Ru rounds it out.

The creek is the calmer choice when the beachfront is packed in peak holiday season, and it suits dogs who like to sniff their way along.
