Benbenjie Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Benbenjie Reserve is a quiet, unfenced reserve on Matthew Street in McCrae, offering 24-hour off-leash access year-round. It is a bushier, low-key alternative to the beach off-leash zones nearby, better suited to dogs who like a sniff and explore than a big open run.

The rules. The reserve is unfenced and bordered by roads, so reliable recall or a long lead matters here. Dogs must stay within sight and under control at all times, and go on-leash within 20 metres of any playground, barbecue or picnic area. Pick up after your dog, as always.

What's there. Natural tree shade and some basic seating, but no water tap and no public toilets, so bring your own water bowl. Street parking is easy along Matthew Street or Bass Street.

Getting there. The reserve sits just off the Mornington Peninsula Freeway (Jetty Road exit) or Nepean Highway, and the 788 bus on Nepean Highway stops a short walk away.

It is generally quiet, with weekend mornings the busiest, and because it is inland, tide times are not a factor. Being 24/7 off-leash year-round, it is a reliable back-up when the summer daytime beach restrictions (10am-6pm, December-February) are in force nearby.
