The short version. Zarb & Ru is a small, old-school cafe on Point Nepean Road, in the heart of the Rosebud shopping strip. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front, which is the natural setup here: a coffee-and-jaffle stop on the main strip, a short stroll from the foreshore.

Good to know. The coffee is rated among the better drops on the Peninsula, and the cafe is known for its jaffles, toasties and paninis, the John Wayne panini among the regulars' picks. It runs as a friendly local hub rather than a polished destination cafe, which is much of its appeal.

Getting there and parking. The address is 1051-1053 Point Nepean Road. Street parking out front is handy but fills fast; there are large free all-day car parks behind the shops, reached via Wannaeue Place or Rosebud Parade, a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. The Rosebud Foreshore Reserve is just across the road with walking tracks along the beach, and parts of the foreshore run off-leash at certain times depending on the season, so check the signage. It makes an easy start or end point for a coastal walk.

When to go. Weekend mornings are the busiest on the strip. Good for a dog that's content to settle at your feet while the main road goes by.
