Capel Sound Foreshore Walk

The Capel Sound Foreshore Walk follows the Peninsula Bay Trail along Port Phillip Bay in Capel Sound, just west of Rosebud. Dogs are on a lead for most of it, with one off-lead stretch between Shirlow Avenue and Daly Avenue.

Lead rules

The Capel Sound Foreshores Committee of Management runs the reserve, under the Mornington Peninsula Shire. Dogs must be on a lead along the foreshore reserve, the beach and the bay trail, apart from the designated off-lead area.

Summer brings tighter rules. From 1 December to 1 February, dogs are only allowed on the beach zones between 6 pm and 10 am.

The walk

The path is paved and shared, with calm bay water on one side and coastal tea trees on the other. You also pass the foreshore camping reserves.

Max: Summer beach hours are 6 pm to 10 am. Outside those, stick to the path.

In summer, go early, before the 10 am beach cut-off.
