Vern Wright Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Vern Wright Reserve's fenced dog park sits in the south-west corner of the wider reserve off Shearwater Place, Capel Sound, and it is genuinely secure - double-gate entry, full perimeter fencing, and enough open space for a proper run rather than a token pen.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted only inside the fenced area itself. Dogs must go back on lead once you step out into the surrounding playground and picnic areas. Owners need voice control over their dogs at all times, and waste bins are provided so there is no excuse not to pick up.

What's there. Double-gate entry keeps things safe at the gate, there is some shade from mature trees, and seating for owners waiting out a zoomie session. Water is the weak point: taps and bowls are inconsistent, so bring your own for the dog.

Getting there. Free parking sits right next to the reserve on Shearwater Place, off Boneo Road. Local buses run along Boneo Road with a short walk in from the closest stop.

Nearby with the dogs. The Hideout Eat Drink Play and Milbri on Point Nepean Road, Rosebud, both have dog-friendly outdoor tables, as does Spitfire's front tables and Hobson's shaded footpath seating further along the same strip. For a stay, pet-friendly holiday houses come up regularly around Capel Sound and Rosebud West on sites like Stayz.

Weekday middays are the quiet window. Early mornings and late afternoons on weekends bring the crowds, so if your dog gets overwhelmed by a packed park, aim for the gap in between.
