Calamvale Creek Path

The path along Calamvale Creek threads a chain of wetlands in Calamvale, on Brisbane's southside, and links to one of the area's biggest fenced dog parks. Walk it on lead, then let the dog off at the district park.

Leads and the off-lead area

Brisbane City Council requires dogs on a lead along the creek path and through the wetland parkland. The off-lead area is the fenced two-hectare dog park in Calamvale District Park, with separate enclosures for small and large dogs.

The walk

It is a flat, paved shared path with boardwalk sections, easy going for prams and wheelchairs as well as dogs. The Golden Pond Wetlands and reed beds bring ducks, egrets and cormorants, plus turtles and water dragons.

Eucalypts along the creek give decent shade, but the open wetland stretches are hot around midday.

Max: Water dragons and waterbirds are everywhere along here, so keep a short lead near the reed beds.

Getting started

Park off Formby Street or Ormskirk Street near Calamvale District Park. The dog park has bubblers with dog bowls, and bins and bag dispensers sit at the main entries and path junctions.

In summer, go early or late to dodge the midday sun on the open wetland sections. The flat paths make it a good choice for older dogs.
