Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway

Following a creek corridor across Brisbane's north, the Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway gives Fitzgibbon dogs a long green walk away from traffic. Dogs are welcome, but they stay on a lead the whole way.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council requires dogs to be on a lead along its reserves and pathways, and the bikeway is no exception. The only place to let a dog run free is inside a designated off-leash park.

It is a shared path, so keep the lead short when bikes come through.

The walk

The path links Fitzgibbon with McDowall, Aspley, Bridgeman Downs and Carseldine, so you can make it as short or as long as your dog likes. Most of it is concrete or asphalt, with the odd stretch of boardwalk or dirt.

It feels like a quiet green belt, passing creeks and small pocket parks, and the birdlife is good. Bring water for the dog, since the full route is a long one.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, head to the Daytime Hidden World Dog Off-Leash Area, then grab a coffee at Beyond The Brew Fitzgibbon.

The mostly sealed surface suits older dogs and prams alike. In summer, go early while it is still cool.
