Bushy Creek Trail

Bushy Creek Trail follows a narrow creek corridor through Box Hill North, and its selling point is a signed off-lead section in Bushy Creek Reserve West. The rest of the way, it is an on-lead suburban stroll.

Leads and the off-lead area

Whitehorse City Council designates parts of the reserve, including Bushy Creek Reserve West, as off-lead. On the shared path itself, keep your dog on a lead and follow the local signs.

Cyclists and runners use the path too, so shorten the lead when bikes come through.

The walk

The trail is a paved concrete path beside the creek channel, lined with native trees, grassy open space and residential gardens. The reserve strip between Elgar Road and Woodhouse Grove runs about 520 metres, and the trail links with Elgar Park and on toward the Koonung Creek Trail network.

Taps and bins are sparse along the strip, so bring water and bags. Parking is near the Elgar Road end by Elgar Park.

For a bigger run, R.H.L Sparks Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is nearby, and Box Hill Gardens makes a second on-lead loop.

When to go

Shade is patchy, so summer walks are best early. It suits dogs that stay calm around bikes, with the off-lead section as the reward.
