Wynyard Showgrounds

Wynyard Showgrounds is a low-cost RV and caravan stopover in Wynyard on Tasmania's north-west coast, and for dog owners it has one very good hook: the council's fenced off-lead dog park sits right beside the camping area, so a proper run is a few steps from your van rather than a drive away.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the showgrounds but must stay on a lead within the grounds. The trade-off comes next door: the Bark Park at the corner of Jackson and Jenner Streets is fully fenced and double gated, with a water station, poo bag dispenser, toy box, a cooling-down pool and undercover seating. The Inglis River walkways along the northern and southern banks are on-lead only, with a two-metre lead rule and restrictions around the river mouth and Fossil Bluff, so treat the fenced park as the off-lead outlet and the river as the leg-stretch.

Worth knowing

This is strictly a self-contained arrangement: no power, no water hookups, no toilets or showers on the grounds. It costs $10 per night for a maximum stay of three nights, booked online through the show society's RV bookings page or by QR code at the gate. Generators run between 9am and 6pm only, campfires are out, and the nearest waste dump point and potable water are on Goldie Street next to the transfer station. Guests consistently score it for quietness, cleanliness and the river-and-town location.

Getting there and parking

The showgrounds sit on the edge of the Wynyard town centre, with the Inglis River and the main street both close enough to walk. Drive in off Jackson Street, park in the designated showground area, and you are set up in minutes. Lemon Tree Providore in town does a good coffee stop, and the council's summer rules allow off-lead beach exercise on the stretches between Port Creek and Seabrook Creek mouths, conditions depending.

Best suited to self-contained vans on a short stop of up to three nights, particularly travellers working down the Bass Highway who value easy off-lead exercise next door over powered-site comfort. Keep the lead on inside the grounds and you will have no issues with the neighbours.
