Somerset Beachside Cabin & Caravan Park

Somerset Beachside Cabin & Caravan Park sits on Tasmania's North-West coast at Somerset, a few kilometres west of Burnie, and takes dogs across both its cabins and its powered sites. For a road trip with a dog in tow, that flexibility makes it a straightforward base on the Bass Highway corridor between Burnie and Wynyard.

Dogs at the park

The park allows one dog of any size, generally with no extra fee, and dogs are permitted both on camping and caravan sites and in designated pet-friendly cabins, such as Cabin 6 (Twin Share). The catch is that not every cabin takes dogs, so tell the park at the time of booking that you are travelling with one and confirm you are allocated a pet-friendly unit. Turning up unannounced with a dog is not a plan; pet-friendly units are limited.

Pepsi: ask for a cabin close to the grass if you can. It makes the last toilet break before bed a lot easier.

The park

Guests describe clean cabins and amenities, powered sites, and a pool table among the on-site extras. It is a simple, no-fuss coastal park rather than a resort, which is exactly the point: an easy overnight stop or a low-key base for exploring the North-West coast with the dog in the back of the plan rather than an afterthought.

While you're out there
