Fleur by Forbidden Sweets

Fleur by Forbidden Sweets is the cafe inside the Burnie Arts Centre at 77-79 Wilmot Street, grown out of a popular local dessert van. It pours good coffee by day and turns to share plates and desserts by night, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables around the Arts Centre frontage.

The dog setup

Seating for dogs is outdoors only, in the open area around the Arts Centre building; inside is table service for humans. The kitchen carries dog cookies on the menu, and a water bowl is usually out front, though it is worth asking if you cannot see one. The precinct is tidy and calm, so a settled dog is comfortable while you work through the dessert cabinet.

Sweet by day, share plates by night

Day service runs Tuesday to Saturday from 8am, covering pastries, brunch and lunch plates plus the signature desserts from the Forbidden Sweets kitchen, with strong vegetarian and vegan options. On Thursday to Saturday nights the room shifts to tapas-style share plates with cocktails, wine and beer. It is closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan dog-walk treats around a Tuesday-to-Saturday window.

Getting there and parking

Wilmot Street has street parking, with further parking near the Arts Centre building, and the whole precinct is an easy walk from central Burnie's shopping strip.

Where the walk actually works

Skip West Beach for the off-leash leg: Burnie City Council prohibits dogs there, and instead designates Cooee Creek Beach, South Burnie Beach and Tioxide Beach as off-lead exercise areas, all a short drive away. Somerset Dog Beach to the west is the closest mapped dog beach. Liv Eat Healthy Eating is the other Burnie cafe on the list, and Lemon Tree Providore makes a good stop further along the coast in Wynyard.
