Cam River Reserve

Where the Cam River meets Bass Strait at Somerset, the sealed coastal path and the Cam River Reserve make an easy riverside walk with views across Somerset Beach. Locals know the reserve as the Boat Park, after its wooden play boat.

Cam River Walk is not an official track name, but this is the stretch people mean.

Lead rules

Waratah-Wynyard Council requires dogs on footpaths and walking tracks to be on a lead no longer than 2 metres. Some nearby beach sections carry seasonal or time-based limits, so check the signs before heading onto the sand.

Water and shade

The reserve has drinking water, toilets, electric barbecues and picnic tables, with parking and a boat ramp alongside. Mature trees give some shade between the open lawns.

Max: The currents near the river mouth are strong. Keep your dog out of the water here and save the swim for the dog beach.

Make a day of it

Somerset Dog Beach is the place for a splash, and the Anzac Park Loop adds another short walk in town.

Who it suits

The sealed path and flat lawns suit older dogs and family outings, with the playground and barbecues close at hand.
