The place

Sea Retreat sleeps two and Sand Retreat five, each with a two night minimum stay, while Headland House takes up to fourteen guests with a three night minimum. The construction is rammed-earth and energy-efficient, with all-weather conservatories, comfortable beds and barbecues, and a quiet nature-focused atmosphere rather than resort facilities. Access is via unsealed roads, so a vehicle comfortable with coastal terrain helps, and conditions are worth checking after heavy rain.

Close by with the dogs

If the no-pets rule rules this one out, BIG4 Port Elliot Holiday Park and Victor Harbor Holiday Park both welcome dogs on sites and in selected cabins, and Boomer Beach Retreat is a house option closer to town.
