Victor Harbor Heritage Trail

The Victor Harbor Heritage Trail runs along the headlands of Encounter Bay, from Kent Reserve and Petrel Cove toward Kings Beach Road, with big ocean views most of the way. Dogs are welcome, on a lead the whole time.

Lead rules

The City of Victor Harbor requires dogs on a lead no longer than 2 metres on the coastal paths and headlands in this reserve.

The walk

The main path is compacted gravel about a metre wide, joined by natural tracks over the headlands. Interpretive signs along the way tell the area's Aboriginal and European history.

Rocky headlands drop to the sea, and dolphins or whales are often spotted offshore. Parts of the route have tree cover, so shade comes and goes.

Water and bins are limited along the trail, so carry both water and bags. Parking is roadside or at the trailheads and can be tight.

Max: A metre-wide path on a headland is no place for a long lead. Keep the dog close and on the inside when walkers pass.

When to go

Calm, mild days are best, since the headlands catch the wind and sun. It suits fit, steady dogs that walk well on a short lead.
