Oasis Tourist Park

This family-owned caravan park at 20 Morgan Road, Virginia, off the Stuart Highway about 20 to 30 minutes south of Darwin, and it takes travelling dogs seriously. Dogs are welcome on the powered caravan and camping sites, with a written pets policy on the park's own site, which puts it ahead of most Top End stops where the answer is a shrug. Facilities include a camp kitchen, heated pool, shaded sites and consistently well-rated amenities.

Leads stay on at all times inside the park, dogs are never to be left unattended outside your rig, and pets are barred from reception, the pool area, amenity blocks, the camp kitchen and BBQ areas, and from inside cabins. Clean up immediately and keep barking in check, because management will act on breaches. Cabins are not part of the standard pet deal, so confirm anything beyond a site directly with reception before booking, and ask about fees at the same time.

The vibe

The park has an awards shelf for customer service and reviews lean on the same themes: clean amenities, leafy shade and a quiet night. Sites are on a suburban street between Darwin and Palmerston, and some visitors find them tight for manoeuvring, so arrive with a plan for the van. The strict leash rule has a good reason: possums and other wildlife move through after dark.
