Windmill Caravan Park

Windmill Caravan Park is an affordable park in Urangan, within walking distance of both the beach and the Urangan Pier, with a camp kitchen, games room and self-contained villas. It is a practical Hervey Bay base for dog owners, and the pet setup is unusually clear: the caravan and camping sites take dogs with no pet surcharge, and selected villas take them too.

All caravan and camp sites are pet friendly, with no pet fee on powered or camping sites. For roofed accommodation, selected one and two-bedroom villas are pet-friendly and bookable online, capped at two pets per booking. The park's pet page lists a pet surcharge of around $25 for the first night in villas, and management reserves the right to assess animals before approval, with a signed dog waiver on arrival.

The house rules are strict: dogs on a lead at all times outside, never left unattended anywhere in the park, never on furniture or beds, and expected to bring their own bedding. Breaching the rules can attract cleaning fees, so it pays to set the dog up properly from the first night.

Max: sites are free of pet fees, so we always book a powered site rather than a villa and save the surcharge for dinner. The pier walk is worth it every morning.

Guests call out the clean amenities, camp kitchen, games room and the easy walk to the beach and the Urangan Pier. It is a no-frills, well-kept park rather than a resort, and the two-pet limit plus the site-side fee structure make it one of the more straightforward dog stays on the Fraser Coast.

Getting there and out and about

The park is in Urangan at the southern end of Hervey Bay, a short walk from the Esplanade. The Urangan off-leash dog beach runs nearby and is the main draw, Urangan Public Dog Park covers the fenced exercise option, and Pier Village Cafe is a coffee stop near the pier.
