Pier Village Cafe

Pier Village Cafe sits right on the Esplanade at Urangan, a few hundred metres from the historic pier, with views across the bay towards K'gari. It is a family-run breakfast and lunch spot that opens early, and dogs are part of the outdoor deck and footpath tables that make it one of the easier dog stops on the Hervey Bay strip.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the undercover and footpath seating out the front, on a lead. Staff have a solid track record with visiting dogs and usually bring out a big water bowl, but carry your own on warm days. There is no indoor access for dogs, and the bay breeze keeps the deck the best seat in the house anyway.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen runs big breakfasts, Belgian waffles, fresh lunches, house-made cakes and specialty coffee, and the cafe is licensed from 10am. Doors open from 5:30am every day of the week until about 2pm, so it is a post-walk breakfast venue rather than a dinner one. Reviewers consistently point at the pier and bay views and the friendly staff, so expect a queue on weekend mornings.

Getting there and parking

Find it at shop 1, 564 Esplanade, Urangan. Free on-street and dedicated parking sit along the Esplanade, and the cafe opens straight onto the foreshore walking path, so you can park once and keep the dog on the lead the whole visit. Note dogs are restricted from the timber pier structure itself, but the surrounding foreshore is fine.

Make a day of it

The Esplanade path runs right past the door, and the 24-hour off-leash stretch at Urangan's off-leash dog beach is a short walk south, with Fraser Coast Council marking the Margaret Street groyne to Dayman Park zone as all-day off-leash. Urangan Public dog park covers the grass-run option. Back for seconds, Salt Cafe Urangan is the other dog-friendly stop at this end of the Esplanade.
