Mount Browne Cottage Coffs Harbour

Mount Browne Cottage is a self-contained cottage in Upper Orara, about twenty minutes inland from Coffs Harbour in the Orara Valley, and one of the more thoughtfully dog-set-up stays on the Coffs Coast. The hosts run a published pet agreement, supply actual dog gear, and keep a fully enclosed rear yard, so it is a low-friction base for a country stay with the dog.

Dogs at the cottage

Pets of most shapes, types and sizes are welcome, including dogs, cats and even guinea pigs, but the terms are formal: every guest with a pet reads and signs the pet-friendly accommodation agreement before arrival. The essentials: pets must be vaccinated, clean and well behaved; they can be inside the cottage under direct supervision but strictly not on furniture or beds; they must be leashed or kenneled outside the private cottage boundary; and they should not be left unattended if you head out. The hosts supply dog bowls, towels, toys and poop bags, which is more than most cottages manage.

It is a single self-contained cottage in a tranquil bush and rainforest setting, described by guests as a serene retreat with responsive, communicative hosts. Reviews are still limited, sitting in the dozens rather than the hundreds, but consistently positive at 4.8. Treat it as a lightly-tested gem rather than an established institution, and confirm current fees and agreement terms when you book.

Out with the dogs from Upper Orara

The enclosed rear yard covers supervised off-lead time at the cottage, but the surrounding rural roads and reserves are on-lead country, so plan trips into town for a proper run. Thompsons Road Reserve's fenced dog park is the standout: double-gated entry, agility gear and a shallow creek to splash in, about half an hour away. At the coast, the Coffs Harbour dog off-lead beach and Boambee's off-lead beach both allow off-leash stretches of sand.

Pepsi: Pack nothing for the dog except the dog: bowls, towels, toys and poop bags are already at the cottage, but read the agreement before arrival because the no-furniture rule is enforced.
