Sorrento Beach Retreat

Sorrento Beach Retreat is a self-contained ground-floor holiday apartment at 40 Raleigh Road in Sorrento, about 500 metres from the beach. It takes dogs and cats, and the reason to book it with a dog is the secure, enclosed rear garden off the alfresco area: a genuinely fenced outdoor space in a beachside suburb where most rentals leave you managing leads in the yard.

Dogs at the Sorrento Beach Retreat

Dogs and cats are both welcome, up to two pets in total with a weight limit of 25kg per pet. A one-off pet fee applies and the exact amount varies by booking channel, so confirm it when you book. House rules ask that pets stay off the furniture and do not sleep in the bedrooms, so pack a bed or crate and set it up in the living area on arrival. The resident hosts live upstairs with two Ragdoll cats, which is worth knowing if your dog is a cat chaser; the pets are separate, but a dog that loses its mind at the smell of one is not going to relax. Bookings have a two-night minimum, and functions or parties are not permitted.

Max: the 25kg cap rules out most large breeds, so weigh the honest number, not your estimate of it. And ask the hosts how secure the rear garden boundary is at dog-eye level before you count on off-lead time out there.

The place

The apartment has three queen bedrooms with ceiling fans, a large living area with a kitchenette (two-burner cooktop, benchtop oven, microwave, full fridge), reverse-cycle air conditioning, a separate toilet and a large laundry, which doubles as a muddy-dog rinse station after the beach. A private undercover alfresco with BBQ opens onto the enclosed rear garden.

Getting there

Sorrento is about 20 minutes north of Perth's CBD along the Mitchell Freeway and West Coast Drive. Raleigh Road sits between the beach strip and Hillarys Boat Harbour, 1.5km away, with street parking at the property.

While you're out there

Hillarys Dog Beach is the closest off-lead beach, just down the coast from the harbour, and Charles Riley Memorial Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the secure run option a few suburbs south.
