Charles Riley Memorial Reserve Fenced Dog Park

The fenced dog park inside Charles Riley Memorial Reserve gives North Beach a fully enclosed off lead run managed by the City of Stirling, a short hop from the coast at the corner of North Beach Road and Kitchener Street. It is a sensible pick for dogs still building recall, with secured gates and a grassy run backed by a sand pit for the diggers.

The dog setup

Off lead play is allowed inside the fenced enclosure, and dogs must stay on lead everywhere else in the reserve, so keep the lead on until you are through the gates and clip it back on before leaving. There is one shared enclosure rather than separate small dog and large dog sections, so read the room before letting a shy dog off.

Water is available on site, and bins are provided for waste, though carrying your own bags covers you if dispensers run empty. Standard City of Stirling rules apply, meaning registered dogs under voice control at all times.

Pepsi: The single shared pen is great for a social dog, but if it is packed you can just walk the leafy outer reserve on lead until the crowd thins out.

The vibe

The wider reserve carries the rest of the outing: benches and shaded picnic shelters, a large playground with softfall, barbecues and public toilets near the clubroom. Sunday mornings and weekday evenings, Thursdays in particular, draw the regulars, while mid morning on a weekday is the quiet slot for a nervous dog.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits a short distance from West Coast Drive, with ample free parking on site. Bus stops along the West Coast Highway corridor are within walking distance, and local footpaths make an easy approach on foot or by bike from around North Beach.

Close by with the dogs

The sand at North Beach Dog Beach is minutes away if your dog likes to finish a park session with a swim. For coffee afterwards, Lawley's Bakery Cafe is the local standby, and Abbett Park Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Scarborough makes a second fenced option for another day.
