Stony Creek Cottages is a quiet, self-contained country stay on four hectares in the heart of Red Hill, with valley views, wood heaters and spa baths. Dogs stay free and are allowed indoors, which puts it a step above the many peninsula stays that keep dogs outside only.

Fencing and safety. A shady courtyard deck off the master bedroom is fenced, but the wider four-hectare block is not, so dogs must be supervised outside. The property backs onto bushland and can have snakes in the warmer months; snake deterrents are installed in the garden, but stay alert on walks.

Location and nearby. It is at 1193 Mornington-Flinders Road with free under-cover parking. The Red Hill Recreation Reserve is roughly 730 metres away, several peninsula wineries welcome dogs in their outdoor areas, and Tedesca Osteria is a short walk while T'Gallant is about 2 km on.

Before you book. Pack bedding, bowls and a lead, and confirm dog numbers with the owners. Good for couples wanting a quiet, indoors-welcome country base with the dog while touring Red Hill.
