Nordie Café

Nordie Café is a Scandinavian-inspired all-day eatery at 1008 Mornington-Flinders Road in the heart of Red Hill, and the draw for dog owners is the large, sheltered back courtyard where dogs are welcome. It is an easy stop between the peninsula's wineries and walking trails, with a kitchen that leans Nordic: brunch plates, rosti, specialty coffee and a well-known chocolate brownie, with a kids menu and gluten-free options rounding it out.

It runs daytime service from around 7:15am on weekdays and 7:30am on weekends to a mid-afternoon close, so this is a breakfast or lunch stop rather than dinner. Hours can shift seasonally, so confirm before a long drive. Weekday mornings are the calmest window for a courtyard table with a dog settled at your feet; weekends fill quickly.

Getting there and parking

There is a free car park behind the cafe plus street parking on the surrounding roads, and the path from the car park through to the courtyard is flat and easy. Red Hill sits up in the hills between Mornington and Flinders, about ninety minutes from Melbourne.

Make a day of it

The courtyard slots neatly into a peninsula dog day. Main Ridge Estate welcomes leashed dogs in its outdoor tasting area, and Green Olive at Red Hill lets dogs roam the farm on lead. For a leg-stretch between stops, the Red Hill Rail Trail runs through the district.
