Wild Duck Farm

Wild Duck Farm is a standalone luxury cabin on roughly 35 acres of rainforest and farmland at Peachester in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, about an hour north of Brisbane. It is a couples-only retreat with a single cabin, so you and your dog get the whole property to yourselves, including a dam for swimming and a resident golden retriever for company.

Dogs at the Wild Duck Farm

The cabin and its immediate private gardens sit inside a dog-proof boundary fence, so your dog can roam off lead indoors and out. The house rules are clear: one house-trained, flea-free dog is the standard, a second dog is possible by enquiry before booking, and dogs stay off the beds. Outside the fenced area, dogs remain under control because the wider property carries resident cattle, horses, chickens and ducks. There is a $40 cleaning fee per dog per stay.

Pepsi: a dam to swim in and a whole farm to sniff around off lead, this is the kind of stay worth the drive for.

The vibe

The one-bedroom cabin overlooks the dam, its island and the horse paddock, with air-conditioning, an indoor fireplace, an outdoor stone bath on the deck and a fire pit for evenings. Privacy is the whole point: no other guests, no shared facilities, just close-up encounters with the farm's animals and the quiet of the hinterland. Guests consistently rate it five stars for hosts, location and the chance to properly switch off.

Getting there and parking

From Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway north, exit towards Steve Irwin Way and follow the signs through to Peachester. The property has private undercover parking right beside the cabin. The village itself is tiny, so stock up in Beerwah or Landsborough on the way in.

While you're out there

Mill Park Fenced Dog Park at Beerwah is a short drive down the hill for an off-lead run, The Peachester Cafe Bakery is the local coffee stop in the village, and Blackwattle Farm Bed & Breakfast and Farmstay is another pet-accepting hinterland stay if the cabin is booked.
