The setup. The Local is a modern cafe and bar in the Beerwah Village Shopping Centre, and dogs are welcome in the alfresco seating out the front. That is the spot to aim for - the indoor dining room is not dog territory, so plan to sit outside with your dog settled beside you.

What it does well. This is a casual all-day place: brunch, lunch and dinner, with the usual crowd-pleasers - burgers, fish and chips, steak - plus coffee and cocktails. Weekends bring live music, so a Saturday or Sunday visit tends to be busier and louder, which suits a social dog and less so a nervous one. Staff are used to dogs in the alfresco area and will usually sort out a water bowl if you ask.

Getting there. You will find it at 18/44 Simpson Street, inside the shopping centre, with free off-street parking in the centre car park. Access is flat and easy from the car park to the outdoor tables.

Make a day of it. The 2.4km Woodgrove Circuit is a short walk away and makes an easy on-leash loop before or after a meal. Mill Park Fenced Dog Park is also close by in central Beerwah if your dog needs a proper run.

Come on a weekday or early on the weekend if you want the quietest table, and bring a mat so your dog can settle while you eat.
