Atrium Hotel Mandurah

The Atrium Hotel Mandurah is a resort-style hotel built around a central atrium with an indoor heated pool, and it has run a dog-friendly policy for small dogs by prior arrangement. One caution before anything else: some booking channels still list the property as no-pets, so ring the hotel directly and register your dog before you count on a room. Policies at full-service hotels move around, and the front desk has the current word.

Under the hotel's pet policy, only small dogs under 20kg are accepted, and the requirements list is long: house-trained, socialised, child-friendly, microchipped and vaccinated, with registration with the hotel before arrival. This is not a turn-up-and-hope stay. Expect a bond on arrival of up to $500, and a cleaning fee of around $250 if there is an accident in the room. Dogs stay in designated rooms and are kept out of indoor dining areas.

The hotel itself reads as classic family resort territory: an indoor heated pool, spa, tennis court and the Pontoons restaurant and bar under the atrium, with balconies on many rooms and free on-site parking. Guest reviews regularly describe the rooms as dated, so you are choosing it for the location and the dog policy rather than boutique polish.

Getting there and parking

The hotel sits at 65 Ormsby Terrace in Mandurah's tourist precinct, a short walk from the Mandurah Foreshore Reserve and the estuary boardwalks, with free on-site parking. Perth is just over an hour north via the Kwinana Freeway, and the Mandurah train line puts you in the town centre without driving.

Make a day of it

The foreshore paths suit leashed walks morning and evening, and for an off-lead session the Mandurah Fenced Dog Park at Dudley Park is the secure local option. Coffee with a view is easy on the Terrace: Perch'd sits right on the waterfront, and HUDDLE: the brew at Dolphin Quay is known for its pup cups.
