Selah Valley Estate

Selah Valley Estate is a 430-acre working farm at 110 Youngs Road in the Tweed Valley hinterland, running Highland cattle across rolling paddocks with a year-round creek through the middle of the property. It is one of the few farm stays in the region where dogs get real space: creek swimming, designated off-lead areas and 430 acres to walk, provided the ground rules are followed.

Dogs at Selah Valley Estate

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement from management, with a flat fee of $100 per stay covering up to two dogs regardless of how many nights you book. Pets stay at approved accommodation types only: The Homestead, selected one and two-bedroom Hillside Cabins, and Premium Camping, where dogs stay free. Book the arrangement before you arrive rather than turning up and hoping. Dogs must be under control and leashed in shared spaces and around the Highland cattle at all times, with off-lead access limited to designated areas, so ask at check-in to confirm the boundaries. Bring your own pet bed or blanket because dogs are not permitted on couches or beds, and note that an undeclared pet in non-pet-friendly accommodation incurs a $200 deep-cleaning fee under the guest terms. An additional cleaning fee may also apply for pet-related mess.

The dog setup

The creek running through the estate has a dog-friendly swimming area that flows year-round, which is the standout for water-loving dogs in summer. The property is genuinely off-grid and works the land as well as hosting, with fresh eggs and honey from the farm and fire pits at the cabins. Between the cattle, the creek and the hill walks, this is a stay for active dogs and owners who keep them in sight, not a set-and-forget yard.

Getting there and parking

Youngs Road runs off the Limpinwood valley road about 15 minutes' drive west of Chillingham and roughly 20 minutes from Murwillumbah. The access is gravel rural road, fine for conventional vehicles, and each cabin or campsite has its own parking. Stock up on supplies in Murwillumbah before you turn up the valley.

For other rural stays in the valley, Hosanna Farmstay at Stokers Siding and the Waterfall Hideout rainforest cabin at Chillingham are the closest alternatives, and the Murwillumbah Showground is the practical base if you are camping with a dog closer to town.
