Hosanna Farmstay

Hosanna Farmstay is a farmstay property in the Tweed hinterland at Stokers Siding, with huts, cabins and camping around a dam, a creek and fire pits. Dogs are welcome to stay overnight, which is unusual for a farmstay, but on one firm condition: no indoor access to any building. Your dog sleeps outside on the cabin deck or under the eaves of a hut, on a lead whenever it is out of your camp.

Dogs at the farmstay

Dogs can stay overnight but are not permitted inside any huts, cabins, the Homestead or the shared dining and kitchen facilities. They sleep outside on the cabin deck or under the eaves of the huts, and they must be on a leash at all times on the property. If a dog is found inside a hut or cabin, a $50 cleaning fee can be charged, rising to $150 for the Homestead. Bring your dog's own bedding and a bed cover that copes with dew, because the outdoor sleeping arrangement is the whole deal here. This is the wrong pick for a dog that has never slept outside or cannot settle on a deck.

Max: do a wet-weather check before you book. A dog that sleeps on the deck needs shelter from a Tweed storm, and the eaves only work if your dog stays settled.

The farm

The property is built for families: a dam for swimming, a waterslide, creek views, fire pits and farm animals to meet. The leash rule means the farm is a walk-with-your-dog place rather than a roam-free one, so plan exercise around on-lead circuits of the property. The Northern Rivers Rail Trail passes through Stokers Siding, where dogs are officially welcome on a short lead, and the trail's surface is gentle enough for all paws.

Close by with the dogs

Jump on the rail trail at the Stokers Siding station node for a flat, on-lead walk, and keep a torch in the pack for the unlit Burringbar Range Tunnel if you head south. In Murwillumbah, Zambrero is the quick dinner run, and The Happy Apple Cafe at Crystal Creek is the garden-cafe stop on the drive. If you need a second night in town, Tweed River Motel is the riverside fallback.
