The Headmasters Cafe sits inside the old Lower Beechmont schoolhouse on Beechmont Road, a rustic community cafe now run as The Flying Bean at Headmasters Cafe, with a shaded veranda where dogs are welcome on lead.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor veranda and grounds, on a lead and under control. Bring your own water bowl for hygiene rather than relying on one being on hand.

Good to know. The kitchen is known for fresh, simple food such as avocado on Turkish and smoked salmon, with some ingredients drawn from the on-site community garden. The building itself, a former primary school, is the drawcard, along with an op shop and gardens run by the Beech Mountain Association.

Getting there. The cafe is at 1835 Beechmont Road, Lower Beechmont, right on the main road through the Scenic Rim. There is parking on the old school grounds.

Nearby with the dogs. Rosins Lookout Conservation Park is a few minutes down the road, with on-leash trails and hinterland views. Yowie and the Goat Cafe in Lower Beechmont is another dog-friendly stop nearby.

When to go. Current hours are Thursday to Sunday, 6.30am to 2pm, so plan a morning stop if you are driving the Scenic Rim. Good for a lead-on veranda coffee break between hinterland lookouts.
