Hinterland Regional Park Fenced Dog Park

The fenced dog park inside Hinterland Regional Park on Hardys Road, Mudgeeraba, is a large fully enclosed off-leash area set in 62 hectares of scenic parkland at the edge of the Gold Coast hinterland. The fencing is the whole point: it is genuine safe space for a dog that needs to run flat out without a boundary you have to police, and there is agility equipment inside for dogs that like a task.

The dog setup

Off-leash play is only inside the fence. Everywhere else in the park, including the walking trails through the bushland, dogs stay on lead, and dogs are prohibited from marked conservation zones and the neighbouring sports precinct. Carry a lead at all times, keep effective control, and bin the waste; council rules also require any dog showing aggression to be leashed and removed immediately. The enclosure is a big open grass-and-dirt space with trees for shade, water for dogs, and benches and picnic tables for owners.

Worth knowing

The wider park is what makes a trip here an outing rather than a pit stop: kids playground, public toilets, BBQ areas and picnic tables sit close by, so one person can hold the dog park while the family spreads out. It is a rural, forested setting and cows graze on adjoining land, worth remembering if your dog is stock-curious or prone to rushing fence lines.

Getting there and parking

Entry is off the Hardys Road and Bertana Drive roundabout, with ample free sealed parking in the main lot. The site is rural and poorly served by public transport, so drive. Mudgeeraba village and its dog-friendly cafes are about five minutes away.

When to go

Weekday mornings between 8 and 10 and Friday afternoons draw the biggest crowds; Sunday, Monday and Saturday evenings are quieter. The enclosure is large enough to absorb a busy session, but if boisterous play stresses your dog, aim for an off-peak evening.

Close by with the dogs
