Discovery Parks - Lake Hume sits on the shore of Lake Hume about 15 minutes from Albury, and it is one of the region's practical dog-friendly bases. The park spreads across caravan, tent and cabin accommodation with direct lake access for swimming, fishing and paddling, and the lakefront setting is the whole reason to book here rather than in town.

Dogs are accommodated on designated sites and in selected cabins, but nothing is automatic: you must arrange pet-friendly status with the park in advance, and regular cabins are off limits to animals. A pet fee applies and it varies, so confirm the current amount when you book. Inside the park, dogs stay on a short lead at all times outside your own site, no unattended tethering or dog runs, and they are excluded from communal spaces such as the camp kitchen, amenities blocks, playground and pool area. Clean up straight after your dog.

Max: lake mornings from the site and afternoons on the water suited everyone, provided the lead stayed on around the camp kitchen.

Worth knowing

The park runs a camp kitchen and jumping pillow, and cabins are maintained to a clean standard. Water levels move on Lake Hume, so shoreline walking changes with the season. Site selection matters with a dog: ask for a spot away from the playground and busy through-paths when you book.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 37 Murray St, Lake Hume Village, reached via Murray River Road from Albury, and parking on site is free. Albury's shops and services are close enough for supply runs without giving up the removed, lakeside feel.

While you're out there

Because leads stay on in the park, give your dog a proper run at the Alexandra Park Fenced Dog Park in East Albury or the Logan Road Park Fenced Dog Park, with the Belvoir Park Dog Park over the river in Wodonga. In Albury, House of Ivy covers the coffee stop.
