Coranda Lodge

Coranda Lodge is a rustic guesthouse at 73 Twelfth Road, Haynes, on the southern edge of Armadale in Perth's south-east. For anyone travelling with a big dog, it is a genuinely rare find: dogs of any size are welcome in designated rooms, and no additional pet fee is listed. A handful of individually decorated rooms on a garden block, minutes from the Armadale town centre, make it an easy overnight stop between the city and the Serpentine countryside.

Bring your dog's own bedding and bowls, as these are not supplied. Cats are also accepted, which is unusual for a working guesthouse.

The place

Rooms come with functional kitchens including refrigerators and stovetops, private furnished patios, separate sitting areas and complimentary Wi-Fi, so you can keep a dog settled in your own space rather than a single motel room. Outside there is a seasonal swimming pool, a sun terrace, established gardens, and barbecue and picnic areas. Free parking on site makes arrivals with a car and a dog straightforward. Guests consistently describe the lodge as a home away from home, and the grounds give a dog somewhere to stretch its legs before the drive resumes.

Getting there and out with the dog

Haynes sits just east of Armadale's centre, reachable from the city via the Armadale Road or Albany Highway corridor. For exercise, the John Dunn Memorial Park fenced dog park in Kelmscott is a short drive north, and Harber Park's fenced dog park is even closer to the lodge. If you want a coffee stop with the dog on the way through, Armadale Park Cafe is a known dog-friendly table in town.

Worth knowing
