John Dunn Memorial Park Fenced Dog Park

The fenced dog park at John Dunn Memorial Park sits at the rear of the reserve off Third Avenue in Kelmscott, and its layout is the reason it draws from well beyond the suburb: three separate fully fenced sections, so big runners, medium players and small or timid dogs each get their own pen rather than negotiating one shared paddock.

The dog setup

Entry runs through a double-gate airlock so nobody bolts on the way in or out, and inside each section you get open grassed runs, agility obstacles, sand pits for the dedicated diggers, and water dispensers. Shaded seating under patios and mature trees keeps owners comfortable, and bags and bins are provided. The park is open daily from 6am to 9pm with free parking near the entrance and a wheelchair-accessible entry.

The rules come from the City of Armadale's dog exercise areas policy: stay inside with your dog and keep them under effective voice control, carry a leash of no more than two metres for each dog, and leash up and leave immediately if your dog shows aggression. Off-leash applies inside the fenced sections only, so the car park and surrounding parkland are lead-on.

Max: Latch the first gate before opening the second, and read the room before picking a pen. The three sections exist for a reason.

The vibe

This is a well-regarded park with a friendly regular crowd, and the three-way split does the heavy lifting for socialisation: puppies and older dogs get a calmer pen away from the big runners. Sunday mornings and Wednesday and Thursday evenings are when the regulars turn out in numbers. In summer, take your own water as backup and mind the shade, because the open grass heats up fast.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Third Avenue, an easy turn off Albany Highway, and Kelmscott train station is within walking distance if you are arriving without a car. Free parking sits near the entrance.
