Crescent Moon

Crescent Moon is a nature-focused property on about 100 acres of protected land at Crescent Head on the NSW Mid North Coast, roughly 10 kilometres south of the village along Point Plomer Road near the Big Hill surf break. Of its three listings, The Longhouse is the dog-friendly one, and it takes dogs for a fee of $100 per pet per stay.

Book The Longhouse specifically: the other two listings on the property, The Shack and River House, are not the pet-friendly option, and there is no day-visit arrangement for dogs. The $100 per pet, per stay fee applies on top of the nightly rate. The hosts do not publish a size limit, so mention your dog when you book and confirm the space suits them. The property has a 24-hour caretaker and Starlink internet, which tells you both that someone is around if you need help with a dog matter and that a remote-work stay is practical.

The place

Guests describe a quiet, green property with quality linen, attentive hosts and a deliberately unplugged feel, with books, birds and bushwalks doing the entertaining. The setting is national park, river and coast on every side, so expect wildlife rather than a resort. It suits couples or solo travellers with a calm, well-controlled dog, since the resident birdlife and open land reward a dog that settles rather than one that chases.

Getting out with the dog

Point Plomer Road puts you close to some genuinely dog-friendly coastline. Under Kempsey Shire Council rules, the northern end of Crescent Head's Back Beach is off leash, north of the vehicular access, and the beach beside Delicate Campground in Goolawah Regional Park also allows dogs off leash. The campground itself is one of the rare NSW coastal national park campgrounds that takes dogs, though it is a separate booking.
