Delicate campground

The short version. Delicate Campground is one of the few dog-friendly beach camping areas in northern NSW. Dogs can stay overnight in tents or campervans, and the off-leash beach runs right alongside the campground. If you want to camp on the sand with the dog, this is the standout.

The pet policy. Dogs are permitted overnight in the camping areas and must be kept under control and within the designated dog-friendly sections of the ground. On the beach adjacent to the campground, dogs are allowed off-leash. Camping fees were around $27 per night as of mid-2023, so treat that as a guide rather than a current figure and check before you go.

The place. This is a basic, natural campground - expect beach access, beach showers, cold showers and a mix of long-drop and flushing toilets rather than resort facilities. That simplicity is the appeal: you are camping close to the sand, not in a busy holiday park.

Location and nearby. It sits along the Point Plomer Road stretch south of Crescent Head, within the Goolawah reserves. Swell Nourished Cafe up at Waves Campground is an easy drive for a coffee with the dog.

Who it suits. Campers happy with minimal facilities who want off-leash beach access from the tent door. Bring water, shade and everything else you need, and keep the dog under control around other campers and wildlife.
