Swell Nourished Cafe

Swell Nourished Cafe sits inside Waves Campground at 954 Point Plomer Road, a short drive out of Crescent Head village along the backroad that follows the coast toward Limeburners Creek. It is a wholefood, largely plant-based kitchen in a shaded canopy setting, open 8am to 2pm Friday to Monday, and often every day through school holidays. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, and the whole setup is a natural stop for anyone exploring the Point Plomer stretch with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs settle beside your table in the open-air, canopy-shaded seating under the bush canopy, with water bowls provided. The cafe is part of a working campground, so there is a familiar cast of regulars, dogs included, through the early-morning scene. Keep your dog leashed and settled close, both because the campground moves around you and because wildlife runs through the site.

On the menu

The kitchen leans into conscious, plant-forward cooking: savory potato waffles often served with mushrooms and avocado, pulled jackfruit burgers on gluten-free friendly buns, bao buns, inari pockets and toasties. Drinks run to 100 percent organic house kombucha made in small batches, a goddess turmeric latte, smoothies and solid coffee, and there are house-baked vegan sweets in the cabinet. It is quiet and slow by design, well away from the main town.

Getting there and parking

Take Point Plomer Road out of Crescent Head; the campground entrance is about ten minutes from the village. Free onsite parking sits within the campground area, so you are not circling for a street spot. The road is unsealed in parts, fine for ordinary cars in the dry.

Worth knowing before you wander

Dog rules on this coast are strict and split across jurisdictions. On-leash dogs are allowed at Delicate Campground and Delicate Beach in Goolawah Regional Park, with designated off-leash sections including Delicate Nobby Beach. But dogs are prohibited in Goolawah National Park proper, and Point Plomer Beach and campground ban dogs entirely under the NSW Pets in Parks policy. On Crescent Head's own Back Beach, off-leash is permitted only north of the vehicular access, and leashed below the high-tide mark on the way down, per Kempsey Shire Council.
