Crescent Head Holiday Park

Crescent Head Holiday Park, part of Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks, sits right by the beach on Pacific Street in the village, with the creek alongside. Dogs are welcome, but only on camping and caravan sites and only outside the peak seasons, so this is a park where the fine print genuinely decides whether you can stay.

Dogs at the park

The operator's pet policy allows a maximum of 1 dog per site, on powered and unpowered sites during low and mid season, with a documented exception for the winter school holidays at selected Macleay Valley Coast parks. Dogs are never permitted in cabins, villas or permanent accommodation, or during peak high-season periods. A signed pet waiver is required and the stay must be approved at the time of reservation. Dogs must be leashed outside your campsite, kept out of camp kitchens, amenities, laundries and barbecue areas, never left unattended, and fully vaccinated; persistent barking can end the booking. Some reports also mention a height limit of around 40 cm, so ask when you call. Fees can apply in the eligible seasons.

The park

It is a large, well-run park in a prime beachside position, which is exactly why the peak-season and cabin restrictions exist: the place is full and busy when the dog ban bites. Facilities are standard holiday park, and the village shops and the creek are an easy walk. It suits campers and caravanners travelling in the quieter months; if you need a cabin or are coming over school holidays, this is not the park for the dog.

The beach run

Under Kempsey Shire Council rules, dogs are permitted off-leash on Crescent Head's Back Beach north of the vehicular access point, and prohibited from that entrance south towards Racecourse Headland, so aim for the northern end and read the signage at the entry path. In the village, Swell Nourished Cafe is a breakfast stop worth trying with the dog outside.
