Mercure Gold Coast Resort at Palm Meadows in Carrara is one of the few large Gold Coast properties with a genuine pet program: dedicated ground-floor rooms built for dogs, complete with a dog bed, bowls and welcome kit, rather than a standard room grudgingly opened to pets. It sits on leafy resort grounds next to Palm Meadows Golf Course, about 15 to 20 minutes from the central Gold Coast strip.

Dogs at the Mercure

One dog or cat per room, up to 50kg, in designated pet-friendly ground-floor rooms with a private terrace or courtyard. The inclusions are unusually complete: a dog bed, food and water bowls, a tote bag, a tennis ball and poo bags are supplied. House-trained, well-behaved dogs only, kept on a lead in public areas, and not left alone in the room for more than two hours. Dogs are welcome on the sunset deck for dining and on the Lakeside Lawn on lead. The package price is not published as a flat rate, so contact the resort for current pet package pricing, and note that a cleaning surcharge can apply for heavy soiling or damage.

The vibe

This is a big, quiet resort property with tennis courts, a pool and open grounds that feel a long way from the high-rise strip. Reviews are generally positive on the beds and grounds, though some guests flag the rooms as dated and there have been occasional mould complaints, worth weighing against the pet perks. If you want resort grounds and a real pet program rather than a beachfront position, this is the trade.

Getting there and parking

The resort sits on Palm Meadows Drive in Carrara, off the Gold Coast Highway between Broadbeach and Robina, with free on-site parking. It is a 15 to 20 minute drive to the beach strip and close to the M1 for arrivals from Brisbane.

Close by with the dogs

The Emerald Lakes Circuit is an easy lakeside walk minutes from the resort gates, and Scenic Park Fenced Dog Park at Benowa adds a fully fenced run a short drive away. Pooches & Pastries is a Carrara cafe built around dogs, which makes it the obvious coffee stop while you are in the suburb.
