Shambhala

Shambhala at Byron is a private, timber-cottage retreat on Bayshore Drive, set among rainforest gardens a short drive from town and the beach. It is genuinely pet-friendly with a clear published policy, though it is tuned to small, well-behaved dogs rather than big runners.

The pet policy. Dogs are welcome, to a maximum of two small-breed dogs per cottage, with a fee of 50 dollars per pet per night. Dogs must be on a handheld lead or in a carrier everywhere on the grounds except inside your own cottage or its private entertaining area, and cannot be left unattended in the cottage. The standard conditions apply: up-to-date vaccinations, flea-free, owners clean up after their dog, and no excessive noise. Management can end a stay if a dog is disruptive, so this suits quiet, settled dogs.

The place. It is a set of secluded timber cottages built around tropical rainforest gardens, with privacy and quiet as the whole point.

Location and nearby. It is on Bayshore Drive with on-site parking. Belongil Beach South dog exercise area is close by for a leashed beach walk, and town cafes with outdoor seating are a short drive.

A good fit for a couple with one or two small, calm dogs after a quiet, leafy base; budget the per-pet nightly fee and plan to keep dogs leashed around the grounds.
