Burrum River Caravan Park

Burrum River Caravan Park sits right on the banks of the Burrum River at 141 Old Bruce Highway, a short drive from Howard and about half an hour from Hervey Bay. It is a genuinely dog friendly park: dogs are welcome on both powered and unpowered sites, and there is a free dog wash on site, which tells you how central four legged guests are to the business.

Dogs are allowed on your site and along the walkways down to the river, leashed and under control at all times, and they cannot be left unattended. They stay out of the park buildings, off the decks and away from the pool area, and pet bedding cannot go through the park laundry machines. Cabins are a different matter, so ask before you book if you are not bringing a van. Pet fees are generally not charged, but confirm terms and any limits on dog numbers when you reserve, since policies do change.

The vibe

Sites are grass or concrete slab and roomy enough for big rigs, including drive through options, with a fire pit area and a private pontoon for fishing or crabbing straight off the bank. The amenities blocks are well kept and the whole place has a quiet, low key feel rather than a resort one. The train line passes nearby, so light sleepers should note it, and close site spacing means a noisy or reactive dog will struggle here.

Getting there and parking

Turn off the Bruce Highway onto the Old Bruce Highway section at Burrum Town; the park is signed on the river side. Parking is at your site, and the river frontage means a walking track starts effectively at your doorstep.

Close by with the dogs

The Howard Dog Park is a short drive inland for an off leash run, Salty at Toogoom does a waterside coffee, and the Toogoom beach accesses give you sand and shallows to explore.
