The Nest of Berry

The Nest of Berry is a self-contained garden apartment at 5A King Street, a short walk from the middle of Berry, set up for dogs properly rather than grudgingly. For a couple travelling with one or two dogs who want the town on foot, it is about as convenient as Berry gets.

The listing allows up to two pets per stay, dogs or cats, and charges a nominal flat pet fee per booking rather than a nightly rate. The setup is genuinely pet-first: there is a fully enclosed fenced outdoor area, and a built-in pet door in the lockable fly-screen front door lets the dog move between the living space and the outdoor seating nook on its own. Bowls, towels, treats and toys are provided for guests. The exact fee figure varies a little between booking platforms, so confirm the current amount and your dog count with the host when you book, either through the direct booking page or by email.

The vibe

It is a compact, immaculately kept apartment geared to a quiet getaway, with guests consistently calling out the comfortable bed, the cleanliness and the host. The pet door and fenced yard mean you can eat breakfast without a dog staring at you from ankle height, which is rarer in holiday accommodation than it should be.

Getting there and parking

King Street runs off Berry's main thoroughfare, so Queen Street's cafes and shops are a few minutes' walk and the Princes Highway access is quick for day trips down to the coast. Berry is about two hours south of Sydney. The apartment has its own off-street parking, and the dog steps out of the car into a fenced yard rather than onto a road.

While you're out there

The designated off-leash ground is the leafy Berry Showground at the corner of Alexandra and Victoria Streets, open to dogs on the grassed areas when no major event is on. For coffee, IV Coffee and Albert Street Caffé and Bar are both walkable from the apartment.
