Atomic Bar

Atomic Bar holds a prime spot at 183-185 Nelson Place in Williamstown, directly opposite the waterfront, doing Italian-leaning pub food, cocktails and breakfast in a room dressed with gold chandeliers. For dog owners it works as a footpath stop: the front tables face the water across the foreshore, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating along Nelson Place.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the footpath tables out the front, which look across to the water, and staff on this strip are used to four-legged regulars. The indoor dining room is not set up for dogs, so plan on the outside tables. Water bowls are commonly put out along the strip, but bring your own during busy service to be safe. Keep your dog leashed; Hobsons Bay requires a leash of up to 2 metres on all streets and foreshore reserves unless signed otherwise.

The menu and the vibe

The kitchen leans hearty: the chicken parma is the anchor dish, with lamb shank, calamari, fish and chips and buffalo wings filling out the pub list, alongside Italian-leaning plates such as chicken scallopini and wood-fired style pizzas. Happy hour runs daily from 3pm to 7pm, and the room trades from 11am to 9pm across the week. It is a sit-down meal kind of place rather than a grab-and-go coffee stop, and it suits a long lunch by the water.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Nelson Place and the side streets, but it gets very busy on weekends; the Commonwealth Reserve area a short walk away has more options. The Williamstown train line and the ferry from the city both land you within an easy stroll for a car-free visit.

While you're out there

Commonwealth Reserve across the road is an easy on-leash green space, and the foreshore path in front runs past Gem Pier toward the Williamstown Lighthouse as part of the Hobsons Bay coastal trail. For proper off-leash time, the Cyril Curtain Reserve dog off leash area is the designated stretch near the cricket ground. Note that dogs are on-leash only through the Jawbone wetlands, with no access inside the sanctuary zones, and seasonal bans apply at Williamstown Beach in summer.
