OAR

OAR is a relaxed lakeside kitchen and bar at 100 Military Road in West Lakes Shore, looking straight out over the water at the northern end of the West Lakes system. It is a breakfast and lunch venue through and through: zucchini fritters, avocado toast, poached eggs and smoothies on the menu, a solid vegan list, and tables that wrap around the lake view. The venue is dog-friendly in its outdoor dining areas, which makes the flat loop around the lake a natural pre-brunch walk.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, with the indoor room dog-free. Sunny weekend mornings fill the outside seating first, so book and ask for an alfresco table if you are bringing the dog. Carrying a water bowl is sensible, as is arriving before the mid-morning rush if you want a calm table.

Worth knowing

Hours run 7am to 3pm every day, with the kitchen wrapping up early afternoon, so plan the dog's big walk before breakfast rather than after lunch. There is no dinner service, which keeps the crowd and the noise down for a settled dog.

Getting there and parking

OAR sits on Military Road on the West Lakes Shore side of the water, with parking around the venue and the lakeside path effectively at the door. The lake loop is an easy, flat, on-lead walk that starts and finishes at your table.
